Kristen Stewart Wore a Grown-Up Version of the Double Ponytail I Rocked in Middle School

Kristen Stewart is the latest star to get into the Y2K revival with her newest hairstyle, done by her longtime stylist Adir Abergel.

Honestly, any time the two come together they create hair magic. Some of their most recent hits include the knotted updo Stewart wore for the Spencer premiere in New York City last November, the messy bun with bangs she sported for an appearance on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and a wet-look ponytail at the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards earlier this month.

On March 15, the Spencer actor paid a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss the 2021 film and her first-ever Oscar nomination for the role. Of course, we were most interested in the hairstyle she and Abergel chose for the occasion: a classic double ponytail that’s giving us major early 2000s vibes. You know it, you’ve seen it, you’ve probably worn it yourself.

Abergel created this bi-level look by making a horizontal part at the back of Stewart’s head and slicking the top half into a ponytail. The bottom half of her hair is also pulled into a smooth pony, then connected to the ends of the top one. We love this hairstyle because it’s so familiar. It’s a simple way to add interest to the humble ponytail,  and reminds us of our childhoods, too. Don’t lie — we know you rolled through the middle school dance in a Juicy Couture terry tracksuit and a double pony. Maybe yours had a pouf in the front, too.
