The Max Mara Resort 2023 show took place in Lisbon in the sumptuous sub-tropical gardens of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. The collection was inspired by the poet and social activist Natália Correia and a celebration of her contribution to Portuguese culture during the mid-twentieth century. Curvy silhouettes in honor of the sensuality and femininity that Correia advocated for with below the knee yet sexy hemlines on gowns fit for a soirée dominate the runway. For every gown is an equally elegant trademark Max Mara coat to accompany it. Embroidery is inspired by the Portuguese tradition of « lenços de namorados do Minho » or « handkerchiefs of love, » where girls looking to marry embroidered a handkerchief with messages and symbols of love to give to the man they hoped to marry. These embroidered motifs of hearts, flowers and doves figure in the prints and on t-shirts made in collaboration with local artisans. Discover the looks and the full video of the show below.
