A $15 Hair Gloss Is Going TikTok-Viral for the Miracles It Works on Natural Redheads — See Video
It used to be that a gloss treatment was something you could only get at a salon — a quick process to add dimension and mirror-like shine to your hair, whether it was dyed or not. Over the past few years, though, at-home gloss kits have become more and more popular for those who want to brighten up their color or simply add a pop of reflective shine without having to book an appointment and shell out the big bucks. According to one TikTok user, there’s a particularly great gloss for redheads living in the aisles of your local Target, and after seeing her video, I’m wishing I was a redhead so I could try it out.
TikTok user Ansley (@tiny_tobasco) posted her gloss experience in late September, and the video quickly went viral on the platform; TikTok is always looking for beauty hacks and drugstore gems, and the Kristin Ess Signature Hair Gloss in Copper Penny is clearly a winner. Ansley is a natural redhead with a strawberry undertone but wanted to bump up her color just a bit. “I personally have never glossed my hair before… all I know is it can take the vibrancy of your hair and take it to the next level,” she shares in the video. “I always like my hair when it’s a bit more red, but I’m not paying money to do this.”
Lucky for us, Ansley takes us on the journey as she tries out the $15 gloss. She shows us her dry hair “before,” and then transitions to her wet hair with the gloss applied; the directions advise you apply in-shower for best results. The color looks really dramatic while wet, but Ansley isn’t worried. (One pro tip she shares: Wear gloves, because the gloss stains!) After about 20 minutes, the final result is a bright, vibrant copper with a gorgeous shine. “This looks like I went out and dyed my hair,” she says. “This is nuts.” Nuts, maybe, but also stunning! (And no, you’re not hearing things; Ansley does shift between a few accents while filming the video.)
Ansley isn’t the only TikToker showing off fresh copper color via the Signature Hair Gloss. User Cameron Fuller also had great success with the at-home gloss treatment, going from a golden blonde to strawberry red.
How does it work? According to the brand’s website, the gloss is meant to be used between color appointments. “This in-shower treatment is formulated to instantly boost vibrancy and shine while adding depth to color-treated or natural copper-gold hair,” Ess states on the site. “It will help you keep your color looking fresh, shiny, and healthy between appointments.”
If you’re not a redhead but are curious about glossing your hair, Ess also offers platinum, wheat blonde, black, and several other shades in her Signature Gloss lineup. Fresh fall color, coming right up!
